Those that have eyes, let them see. Those that have ears, let them hear! Every country is suffering from violence, racism, rape, murder…and the list goes on and on. There is so much havoc in the world. There is so much havoc in our lives. Is there any hope?
I love weddings, and one of my favorite parts is seeing the first dance of the bride and groom. I remember one of the weddings I went to had a fog machine. The bride and groom entered the dance floor, and then a beautiful fog followed them! The fog surrounds their feet and now it appeared they were dancing in the clouds.
The illusion of them being in the clouds was mesmerizing, something special the newly-weds wanted to leave with you. The reality is, once the smoke is gone, you realize they are still on solid ground.
I think there are many things in our lives where there is a smokescreen in front of us and we can’t really see what is there. Many have said 2020 was going to be the year of perfect vision, but what is God wanting us to see? With the natural eye, it looks like chaos…wouldn’t you agree?
I have to wear reading glasses…I’ve never been very fond of wearing glasses but I’ve had to wear glasses since I was a kid. For a few years, I choose not to wear them, why?… Because I am stubborn, I guess. After getting many migraines, I had no other choice but to see a doctor. And guess what? They told me I needed to get glasses. They also told me my eyes were straining to see which made them work harder than normal. That was the reason for the migraines.
So, I gave in.
When I started to wear my new glasses, I noticed how bad my eyes were. As soon as I took them off, the writing on the tv or computer screen was blurry.
Many times we are looking at situations with our natural eyes instead of putting on our spiritual glasses. This too can affect our spiritual walk like how it affected my physical body. We are working hard to fix things in the natural when what we are facing is spiritual. We don’t have our spiritual glasses on and so we are not able to discern what is really happening. So we are fighting a losing battle, and we are exhausted because we don’t have the right weapons or tools.
And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. – 2 Kings 6:17
Elisha, a mighty prophet of God, was spilling the beans on the king of Aram’s plans to destroy Israel to the king of Israel. Frustrated, the king of Aram sent out horses and chariots and surrounded the city. Elisha’s servant cried out of fear, “what shall we do?”
Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” – 2 King 6:16
It didn’t look like that was true. But Elisha prayed his servant’s eyes would be open and it was. The servant was now able to see clearly. There were many chariots and horses on their side. Elisha also goes further to pray the enemy wouldn’t be able to see. He tricks them to believe they are in the wrong area and leads these blind men away.
There is something important about seeing. But seeing correctly. Elisha had to pray for his servant to see, which means even though he could see…he wasn’t seeing. The enemy wants to stop you from seeing, he will put up smokescreens so you are not seeing correctly. He will do it in different forms but we need to be aware of his tactics.
There is so much more on seeing in the bible but I leave this with you
…“Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand…” – Matthew 13:13
These are Jesus’ words. This was part of his response when the disciples asked why he talked in parables. The secrets of God has been given to the believers, but if we cannot see or hear correctly, we won’t be able to perceive correctly.
For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’
But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. – Matthew 13:15-16
God has so much He wants to show us. Let us humble ourselves to seek Him, ask Him to take away our desires, feelings towards situations or people, and fill us with His desires and feelings, so we can discern correctly and pray effectively. He will give you the tools you need to fight your battle, AND teach you how to use it.
If you haven’t received Jesus Christ as you saviour and it seems like things are not going well, you feel like giving up because it appears the cards are stacked against you, God is wanting to show you what to do. Don’t lean on your understanding anymore. There is an easier and better way to get through this. Call out to Him, He is waiting.
Yes! Oftentimes things are painted in such a way and it looks so real.. and it seems so bad. But it is often a smoke screen to distract from what is actually happening. As you said we must seek God to see what He is saying and to understand what is happening through our spiritual eyes. Our physical eyes can’t see or properly perceive what is really taking place.

Is It Truly As You Perceived? I read this post twice because I needed it that much! No matter our age, I think as Christians we have to constantly seek to see what is beyond the natural world that we are perceiving.
You write with such depth and clarity. Thank you for touching our lives in this mighty way!

Beautiful. I love how God is so much bigger than what I see. Thank you for reminding me. I do believe 2020 is for us to see HIM more in everything.
From a write to another, I love how your writing flows. It’s really beautiful how you connect the thoughts together. I find that the hardest thing to do on a blog post for me.

Yes! Love this thought provoking post. So often we are seeing things with our natural eyes instead of our spiritual ones. Great analogy!

“We don’t have our spiritual glasses on and so we are not able to discern what is really happening” = WORD. Thanks for sharing this very timely post, how can we fight when we don’t know what is actually going on? How can we fight without the right tools?
I am praying for the spirit of discernment, help me oh Lord 🙏

Seeing through God’s eyes is so important and something I pray to do. My vision is also imperfect, so I can relate to your analogy of hazy vision and how it relates to our spirituality. Thanks for such a thought provoking post.

Hi Mary, thanks for reading. It’s so easy to see things the way they like to us. But we have to step back sometimes to ask God for clear vision

Elizabeth, I definitely didn’t see 2020 starting off and continuing the way it has been going. It’s becoming more and more obvious that God is shifting the atmosphere of people across the world. Looking at it with our natural eye, it doesn’t look as if anything good will come out of this year. However, I believe that it is truly not how we may perceive it. Thanks for that reminder.

Hi Brandi! I also didn’t see 2020 being like this either. It’s a bit disappointing, but God has a plan. We have to hold on to that.

Loved what you said here: “if we cannot see or hear correctly, we won’t be able to perceive correctly.” Praying God will help me to see with “spiritual eyes”.

It definitely hasn’t been the year we were all expecting it hoping for! God sees all of our pain and is with us every step of the way. Even when things appear bleak we have this hope as our anchor. In all the pain around us, God is teaching me to be more generous with my time and resources, using them to serve others.

Thanks Kayla. There is so much going on right now, and with the media we don’t know what is really true or false. One station says one thing and the other says something else. We need to ask God for direction.
