One thing many people have to face and overcome is the spirit of rejection.

According to the dictionary, Reject means to refuse to accept. consider, to submit to, take for purpose, or use.

Rejection is the feeling you feel after you have been rejected.

Rejection is not a good feeling, and unfortunately, many of us carry this feeling along with us in our life journey, like a suitcase or a backpack.

Backpacks are worn on your back to carry things in. But God is not expecting us to carry our feelings of rejections in this backpack.

The bag will get heavier and heavier because if you don’t let go of the rejection, you will continue to add more and more rejection in the bag.

Rejection will make you miss out on the things God has for you.

You will look to others and things to fill that feeling of void not realizing the gift God has given you.

God has given each one of us a gift. My gift is different than yours, and yours is different than mine.

As you already know, I am a blogger. I love writing. I’ve been blessed with the gift of writing.

My husband is a speaker. He can talk all day long. He is also able to go to complete strangers and talk to them, while I am more like the one to hide inside the house…away from people, I don’t know.

The media has put up a visage of what a successful life is supposed to look like. The big house, the successful job, the kids going to University and I can’t forget the “white picket fence.”

If we are not careful, we will fall into the trap of believing what we have is not enough. We will feel rejected by society. But we must not covet what your neighbour has.

My husband can try to walk in my shoes or complain he is not good enough because he cannot write like me, OR, he can use the gift of talking that God has given him.

Walking in my shoes is not going to help him. To be honest, it only will bring on more rejection than before. No one can fit in your shoes. And my husband definitely can’t fit in mine…literally.

Let’s look at 1 Samuel 17:38-40

For some context, David, a shepherd boy put his hand up to fight against a giant, Goliath. No one in Israel was brave enough to want to fight this giant.

But David stepped up. At first, the king’s response was, “don’t be ridiculous, you are only a boy. You can’t fight this giant.”

Rejection could have come and overwhelmed David, but David wouldn’t have it, he was up for the task. This is where the scripture begins.

Then Saul gave David his own armor—a bronze helmet and a coat of mail. David put it on, strapped the sword over it, and took a step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before.
“I can’t go in these,” he protested to Saul. “I’m not used to them.” So David took them off again. He picked up five smooth stones from a stream and put them into his shepherd’s bag. Then, armed only with his shepherd’s staff and sling, he started across the valley to fight the Philistine.

David was right, he could not go into battle wearing Saul’s armor. David went into battle with what he knew…his shepherd’s staff…you see because he was a shepherd.

God doesn’t need you to wear other’s armor to give you the victory. He has already equipped you with what you need to get it.

David didn’t accept the rejection of the king. He knew his gift. He had fought lions and bears to protect his father’s sheep. Now he was ready to protect the sheep of Israel.

Many times we are rejecting the gifts God has given us because of previous rejection we have received, saying, “I can’t do it like them, I can’t read like them, I can’t speak like them, I am a stay at home mom, so I am not worthy, I am not educated enough.”

First off, God doesn’t need your education in order for Him to use you. Look at some of His disciples, many were considered unlearnt.

Don’t accept that rejection!

God equips His people. All He is looking for is your submission to Him. He considers you more than enough.

We all need to know the gifts God has given us so we can use it for His glory.

Let’s be like David with the shepherd staff, and use what God has given you.

So if you are a writer, write to bless people. If you are a talker, use your words to help bind up people’s wounds. If you are a stay at home mother, equip your children to become strong men and women of God. If you are an artist, let your words be written through your art.

I pray this has help you with the thoughts and rejections and doubt that wants to overwhelm you. You are more than enough. You can check at some resources that can also help you with rejection below.

  1. Yes we must operate in our own callings! I believe that rejection is the root cause of many other emotional issues that people face in their life. It often starts in childhood, whether it is an actual rejection or perceived rejection, and grows with the person as they get older. It is so dangerous because it will hinder the life and the calling of the person. Unfortunately majority of us have felt feelings of rejection at some point in our lives.. we must run to the Father to receive healing before the wound gets ‘infected’ and begins to spread to other facets of our life. I read the book uninvited and completely loved it and found it super helpful! Great post

    1. Thank you Michelle. I know I had to deal with some rejections in my life from my childihood that God shown me that was affecting my life. You are right, it is like a wound that if not treated will get affected and spread to other parts of the body.

  2. I’ve personally battled feeling rejected by society for having a “big family” or not having or doing what is required to be “successful” according to society….its actually recently the Lord has been ministering to me about that I feel at peace now with living by societies standards and/or norms
This was a great topic! 🤍🦋
