I’ve heard many say the best position to pray is on your knees.

I appreciate this thought but for me, walking is the best prayer position.

I like to walk around when talking on the phone. I pace back and forth, back and forth while chatting away.

I don’t know why. Sounds silly, right? Maybe it gives me more to talk about…

I also pace while praying. I like to walk while talking to God

I’ve had a hard time with prayer at times because I felt the only way to pray with God was on my knees.

Now, I’m not knocking praying on your knees. There are times while being on my knees brought me to sweet communion with my Lord, but I love to walk and talk.

What Do You Say When You Pray?

Prayer is talking to God. We sometimes make it seem more difficult than it really is. I’ve talked to people that don’t pray at all…and the reason behind that is because they don’t remember the prayers.

How many times have you not prayed because you felt you weren’t doing it right? Or weren’t saying the right words?

I was shocked. I couldn’t believe what I heard and at the same time I was saddened. “What do you mean you don’t know the prayers?”

I responded, “girl, just talk to God like you are talking to me.” She couldn’t believe it could be so easy.

It’s really a blessing that we have the opportunity to pray to our Heavenly Father.

There have been times in my life and I’m sure yours when you really don’t know what to say in prayer.

This usually happens to me when my heart is broken. I would sit in my room and either cry or just sit quietly in the presence of God.

And that’s ok. God is with us in these moments. He knows our pains and hurts and I believe He is sitting there right beside you.

Kinda like when you have a friend that grieving. Sometimes we don’t know what to say. But that friend is just grateful you are there with them.

Where Should I Pray?

But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. – Matthew 6:6

Have you ever heard of a prayer closet? Some people use term as their prayer place. It is a location they chose to pray. Some actually literately go into their closet to pray.

I’ve done this many times and still do…and I have to say…I have had some sweet time in my closet. I love praying in my closet. It’s kinda like the inner room. There is only room for 2…at least in my little closet…me and God.

But your prayer closet doesn’t need to be in the closet. It can be anywhere you want. It’s just a place for you and God to meet.

I was having a conversation with my sister a few days ago and she told me sometimes her prayer time is on the toilet.

This might sound crazy but as a mother of 5 you gotta get it while you can.

There is no shame in praying in the bathroom.

Sometimes that’s the perfect getaway from the kids. A time of rest to unwind and ask God for peace before going back in for another round with the kids.

How Often Should I Pray?

I think we sometimes feel we don’t have enough time in the day to pray the way we think we should.

That’s the problem…its the way we think we should. This can leave us feeling defeated or condemned.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 says

Never stop praying.

This means you are constantly in prayer with God. This can look like talking to Him out loud, or quietly, or talking to Him by your Spirit. Singing can also be a way to pray.

Is there a wrong way to pray?

No, one thing we don’t want to do is let our location or how we pray stop us from praying. Or feel like our prayers are not enough and not being heard.

The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. – James 5:16

It may not look like it, but your prayers are powerful and God hears each one of them.

Jesus talks to His disciples about prayer in Matthew 6:7.

When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again.

Don’t make prayer a religious thing. Anytime you have something you want to share with your Father God, just do.

Anytime. Any place.

He is ready and willing to listen to you.

So find a quiet place. Which may not necessarily be ”quiet” it could be in supermarket while you are grocery shopping or on the toilet.

It is a place where you are in communication with Him.

One thing I’ve learned in my walk with God, that I want to leave with you, God doesn’t need you to be quiet to speak to you either.

Isn’t that a beautiful thing?

I want to hear from you, where is your favorite place to pray comment below?

  1. Great points! It’s so beautiful to think that we can have such a relationship with the Creator of the heavens of the earth that we can speak to Him anywhere and at anytime. I often pray while walking around, I also love praying while washing dishes or doing light cleaning. One of my favorite places to pray is while being in the water, floating on back looking up and talking to my heavenly Father. The beach or pool could be full but at that moment it’s as if it’s just Him and I that are there. Unfortunately I don’t get those kind of prayers often but boy is it sweet when I do!!

  2. Beautiful post! Love this so much! I like to pray to God in the morning when I first wake up, at meal times, and with my husband at night before we go to sleep.

  3. Love this piece and all the points you covered, including the scripture you used. 🙂 I love how we can just come to God no matter what we say and no matter how eloquent (or choppy) our words might be. All we have to do is come and at times, just be still before Him. At times, I meet God while at my desk, while walking the dog, sometimes while making lunches for the kids, I guess in the normal routine of life. I wish I had one, dedicated place (like a closet) but I guess the places just kind of move with me during the day, or where I plant myself in the morning with that first cup of coffee at the table. 🙂

  4. Before I became paralyzed, I liked to walk when I prayed as well. I used to walk from end to end of our altar at our church as I prayed for my congregation. And every morning the first thing I did was go to the sanctuary and walk around the entire room as I prayed.

Now, I pray while I’m in my bed in the morning before I get up. It’s usually a nice quiet time to connect with God.

  5. My favorite place to pray is the Outdoors. As a young man I enjoyed the Sport of Surfing, I learned of the dangers beneath the blue clear water and because of that Prayer was essential before entering in . A quick prayer to Thank God for His awesome creation and of course for His Protection. 😁😁🇵🇷🇵🇷

    1. That’s an awesome place to pray. I would love to pray on the mountains on day. We went to Israel and we were on mountains but alot of people were there. It would have been nice to be alone and prayed there.
